E3: Halo 4 Trailers

I make no secret that I am a Halo fanboy.  So when I heard that Microsoft was going to be showing both a new trailer and gameplay footage at E3 I was damn excited.  Let’s take a look at the trailers and then I’ll give some opinions.

First, it seems as though its only been 4 years since the end of Halo 4, and now humanity is trying to go the route of peaceful exploration.  But something will draw the human vessel across the galaxy to where the Master Chief is currently in hibernation.

Despite the end of the war, the Chief is still fighting Covenant.  I wonder if he is unaware that the war has ended?  But the big shocker is the new enemies.  Either they are Forerunners or descendants of the Forerunners.  Regardless they look fairly freaky and have some powerful weapons.

I for one cannot wait for Halo 4.  Luckily we only have to wait until November!

Microsoft Announces Halo 4

Yes, you read that right.  Today at Microsoft’s Keynote address at E3 they took that chance to announce a new trilogy coming to the Xbox 360.  Microsoft then proceeded to show a preview that formally announced Halo 4!  I’ve got very little news right now, but it seems as though they are targeting a Holiday 2012 release date.  The only thing to be wary of, is that it looks like Bungie is not at the helm for this.  Check out the trailer below from Microsoft’s E3 keynote address.

Halo Reach Preview

I don’t think its too early to say that I want this game… NOW!

Game Trailers From The VGAs

I didn’t watch the VGAs myself.  But it seems as though there were lots of good game announcements that came out of it.  We’re going to take you through a couple of the trailers that we’re excited about.  We’ll embed YouTube videos of what we can, however the game title will also contain a link that should be active to the trailers at other sites.

Mass Effect 2: I’ll be honest, the trailer is a little bland, but it does set things up pretty nicely for showing the grand scale of Mass Effect 2.  Plus, it also doesn’t hurt to have Martin Sheen as one of your voice actors.  This trailer makes it look like Commander Sheppard is a pawn in something that is much larger than he is.  We’ll have to see how this turns out, but I’m not sure I can hold out much longer for this game.

Batman Arkham Asylum 2: We’ve posted before about our love for the first game.  There’s no reason to expect that the sequel won’t be just as good.  I have to say I love The Dark Knight-esque music they’ve put in the trailer.  Makes seems alot more like the gritty world shown in the latest Batman movies.  Also, it looks like the Joker is still recovering from the beating he received at the end of the first game as noted by IV that seems to be running fresh blood into his system.

There are no YouTube links that are active or allow embedding so check out the GameTrailers link above.  I lied there is an active video on YouTube now.

Halo Reach: As a huge fan of Halo I have to say I’m a mixed bag on this new game.  I loved the original 3 Halo games it just seems like now Bungie is trying to use the Halo name to put out a few more games before moving on.  ODST was fun, but it didn’t feel as fun as the previous Halo games.  Reach takes place before the original 3 Halo games.  In the books Reach was falling as the Master Chief departed and headed towards the first Halo ring.  Personally, I’m most excited about being a Spartan again.

Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands: The Prince from the first games is back for this new game.  And it looks like the ability to control time is in place again.  Thats something I really missed after the last game.  I’m not a huge Prince of Persia fan, but I’ll play at some point.

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II: Can’t forget this game.  See our earlier coverage for more!

Those are the big games that will be coming out next year.  Is anyone else drooling as much as me?

Microsoft Says No To Halo Movie

Well, the news is not good for the chances of a live action Halo movie.  Despite Steven Spielberg’s interest in the movie it appears to be stuck still.  According to Microsoft “The Halo feature film remains on hold as we focus on projects like Halo 3: ODST and Halo: Reach.”

So what’s that mean?  Basically, we’re never going to get a Halo movie.  The craptastic Halo anime is going to be the closest thing we get to a Halo movie…  I’m going to hope that someday before I die I can see a Halo movie.

Halo Movie Concept Art

We promised to bring you the concept art that was shown when the initial Halo movie was pitched.  Credit goes to the Latino Review for getting these out to the public.  Take a look below and as always click to see fullsize on either the image itself or the copies in the gallery after the jump!

The images depict the following:

  1. A scene taking place halfway through the film in space
  2. A scene with the Spartan children in training.
  3. Spartans fighting the Covenant
  4. Master Chief fighting through Reach to reach Cortana
  5. The Pillar of Autumn’s arrival at Halo

Does anyone doubt the fact that this movie could be incredible now?  I mean this just looks like it could be epic!

Halo Movie Not Dead?

Fear not fellow Halo fans, it looks like the Halo movie might possibly have been saved.  As a lot of you may have been aware Peter Jackson of Lord of the Rings fame, had expressed an interest in the film.  However, nothing really came of it.  After that the movie got put on the backburner for a lot of studios and looked to be dead in the water.

Now there might be hope.  One the the big producers in Hollywood has expressed an interest.  An man close to many a nerd’s hearts due to his involvement with the Indiana Jones series.  No I don’t mean George Lucas, I shudder to think of what he’d do to Halo.  No, Steven Spielberg is the man who has expressed a great interest in development of a Halo game.  According to IESB:

Spielberg is blown away by writer Stuart Beattie’s take on the game in his script entitled HALO THE FALL OF REACH. This coupled with the fact that his Dreamworks umbrella is looking for a big tent pole to help launch their newly independent studio with distribution over at Walt Disney Pictures after losing Transformers to Paramount in the separation, it’s the perfect combination.

This script written by Stuart Beattie during the writer’s strike of 2007  is based on Eric Nyland’s prequel novel to the Halo games entitled The Fall of Reach.  If you haven’t read it, its worth checking out.  It give a ton of backstory on the Master Chief (Spartan 117) and the Spartan program.  Let me get this out of the way first, Beattie was involved in writing the screenplay for GI Joe, but I’m willing to forgive that based on the early impressions of his story for Halo.

In April 2008, the Latino Review was the first to break the news that a Halo script had been developed.  They had this to say about the film.
