Nerds of the Round Table

For all things good and nerdy

The Cape Premieres Tonight

Tonight NBC is airing the 2 hour premiere of its new superhero series The Cape.  After getting burned by Heroes I’m happy they are giving a superhero story another try.  My only worry is that because they got burned on Heroes they will be a little wary about how The Cape performs.  Hopefully it comes out strong out of the gates tonight and lots of people watch.

At the very least the show does already have some nerd cred.  Summer Glau is starring on the show as an investigative blogger who will be working with The Cape.

The premise of The Cape is as follows:

The series, set in the fictional metropolis of Palm City, follows an innocent cop who has been framed for a crime he did not commit and then left for dead after he is caught. He is eventually saved by a circus ringleader who prepares him with special abilities to defend himself against his foes. Separated from his wife and son, he tries to clear his name while protecting them from being killed in the event that he should be reported alive. He takes the law into his own hands by taking the guise of his son’s favorite comic book hero, The Cape, after he is given a special suit that has unique capabilities. Vowing to get rid of the corruption that has taken over both the city and the police force, he goes after the person responsible for setting him up and causing his “demise”.

The show sounds like it could be pretty good.  One other thing that makes this show more interesting to me is that Bear McCreary is doing the score for the show.  That name should be familiar to all BSG and Caprica fans as McCreary did the score for both of those shows as well.  I’ve always enjoyed his work.  In fact on his twitter he posted a link to the opening credits of The Cape with the score included, which I’ve posted down below.  The combination of the premise, Summer Glau, and Bear McCreary is enough to have me give this show a chance.  I encourage others to do so as well.  Hopefully this is a show that surprises us all.

Chris, I only saw the first hour of the show but I liked what I saw. Hoping I can finish watching on Hulu or something.

I finished watching it tonight. Its a little hokey, but it feels almost like Batman-lite. I think there’s potential but right now the show could go either way.
